During the lead up to Christmas in Quebec, I decided to volunteer on the German markets on the Hot Wine kiosk. I was feeling a little bit apprehensive beforehand as I walked towards the stall meandering through the crowds of people. After working in retail for 2 years, I knew how impatient people can be particularly during the frantic rush of Christmas. I had also been feeling homesick beforehand after skyping with my family. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome of the evening and my mood was suddenly altered. Although the kiosk was extremely busy, everyone was in such a friendly and festive mood which made the evening ever so much more pleasurable.
Presumably due to my blonde hair, many customers were even practicing their German with me (little did they know I was not German and do not speak a word of it) and one person even bought me a glass of hot wine.
If any one gets the chance to work on a German market for Christmas 2016 – DO IT!
