I seldom meet a British person who hasn’t visited Spain but here I was on my first flight to Spain. I was so excited to see Barcelona’s architecture and taste it’s food! Our time in Barcelona was spent wandering it’s beautiful streets and washing down plates of tapas and paella with sangria. Barcelona was an absolute treat!
In fact, I’d go as far to say it is one of my favourite cities in Europe (of what I’ve so far visited.) Barcelona was affordable and the Gaudi architecture blew my mind with it’s intricate and Gothic design.
Of course, a trip to the notorious Sagrada Familia couldn’t be missed! In fact, I had the same ‘pinch-me’ moment I experienced when I first set eyes on the Eiffel Tower. I couldn’t keep my eyes off it. I’ve never seen anything so detailed on this scale. Every-time I looked, I saw something different in the architecture.
Make sure you book Park Guell at least 42 hours before you arrive for unlimited access to the park. But don’t panic if you are too late, the views surrounding the restricted sections are still so impressive.
One of my favourite districts was the Gothic area replete with bars, restaurants and stunning little alley ways. Definitely worth exploring and grabbing an ice cream for the walk!
I leave to return to Quebec in a matter of weeks and there’s still so many cities I haven’t yet seen in Europe. My next city break will definitely be in Italy. I would be lying if I said that eating their pasta and pizza wasn’t a main factor as to why I want to go!!
Where is your favourite city in Europe?
